New Knoxville Centennial Souvenir, 1936:
New Knoxville's wagon making industry had its beginning
at the hands of Wm. J. Katterheinrich during the late 50's.
Prior to this time most of the wagons had been built at New
Bremen. Mr. Katterheinrich set up his shop on Spring Street,
which was later converted to a dwelling and in 1936 was the
property of Mr. Katterheinrich's daughter, Mrs. Dr. S. H. Sibert.
Shortly after he had begun the business, he was joined by his
brother, Henry, as apprentice, who had mastered the trade when
Wm.J. was called 11 Feb 1865 to defend the Union, going to camp,
contracting typhoid, and was buried at camp.
