Obituary of Tommie Hilsman Palmer as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 12 Apr 1957. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services for Tom Hilsman Palmer, 69, will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p. m. at Mt. Zion Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery with the Rev. Charles Duncan, the Rev. P. K. Keadle, and the Rev. N. H. Williams officiating. Pallbearers are C. P. Palmer, Roy Palmer, Ben Hill Palmer, Julius Palmer, B. P. Palmer and Albert Palmer. Son of the late Harmon Preston Palmer and Annie Jane Luckey Palmer, pioneer citizens of Mitchell County, Mr. Palmer was born and reared here. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was active in community affairs. He held wide business and farming interests. He died at his home Sunday following a long illness. Besides his wife, the former Mabelle Palmer, survivors include six sons, Theodore Palmer, Euitt Palmer, Jack Palmer, all of Camilla, Zuber (Toby) Palmer, Cuthbert, Billy Palmer, Albany, and Maxie Palmer, San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Camilla, and Mrs. Stanley Shiver, Quitman; a brother, Ambrose Palmer, Cotton; two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Embanks, Sale City, and Mrs. Chan Powell, Pelham; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
