Obituary of Harmon Preston Palmer as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 18 Oct 1935. Camilla, Georgia. After several months of tedious illness, Mr. Harmon Palmer passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chan Powell, in Pelham, Wednesday morning about nine o'clock. Although his death was not unexpected yet it caused grief and sorrow among his large band of relatives and his host of friends throughout the county. Uncle Harm was passing his eighty fourth milestone of life, having spent a long fruitful life among us. He was one of the pioneer settlers of our county and was always one of Mitchell's most active and substantial citizens. He lived with his son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Palmer, of Cotton, for many years and most of his farming interests were in our community also. Up until a few months before his death he was very active for his advanced age and he made regular visits with his children. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Mt. Zion Baptist church with Rev. S. O. Thomas, assisted by Rev. Eller, of Pelham, in charge. The Pelham choir gave two comforting hymns. Interment was held in the Mt. Zion cemetery. He is survived by one brother, Seb Palmer, and the following children: Mrs. Chan Powell, Mrs. Rask Embanks, Mrs. Lee Embanks, Mr. R. P. Palmer, Ambrose, J. O.; R. H. and T. H. Palmer. Twenty seven grandchildren also survive. Active pallbearers were: B. F. King, M. L. Pullen, R. L. Goodson, T. L. Wilder, J. M. Hayes, Jack Payne, J. T. Flynt, and J. C. Leonard.
