Obituary of Seaborn E. Palmer as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 7 Jun 1946. Camilla, Georgia. Mr. Seaborn E. Palmer, aged and widely known and loved Mitchell county farmer, died at his home in Mt. Zion community Sunday 2 Jun 1946, following a ten day illness from pneumonia. News of Mr. Palmer's death has caused sorrow among numerous friends in this county. Funeral services took place at Mt. Zion Baptist church Tuesday, 4 Jun 1946 at 11:00 AM, conducted by Rev S. H. Bennett, of Camilla and the Rev W. M. Davis of Meigs, and attended by a large concourse of friends. Music was in charge of the church choir and there were many beautiful flowers attesting to love and thoughtfulness of friends. Pallbearers, all grandsons of Mr. Palmer, were Vaughn Yates, Maitland Yates, Durant Jones, Doffice Palmer, Malcolm Palmer and Theodore Maples. Internment was in the family lot in the cemetery near the church. Mr. Palmer was 88 years of age when death came to him. He was born and reared in this county and spent his entire life here. Early in life he begun farming, a trade in which he was successful through hard work, constant and thoughtful attention and love of the soil. He lived his life quietly. He was devoted to his family and the people of the surrounding community and to the church. He was a long time member of Mt. Zion Baptist church and loved its services and fellowship. He served for a number of years as deacon in the church. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Lila Luckey and the following children: Mrs. Oscar Jones of Camilla, Mrs. H. H. Yates of Pelham, Charlie P. Palmer of Harmony, Mrs. Burl Maples of Mobile, Ala., Roy Palmer of Cotton, Albert, Ben Hill and Miss Vera Palmer of Camilla, B. P. and Julius Palmer of Camilla and several grandchildren.
