Moved from Ipswich with his father to Quaboag in 1668, and was living in Hadley by 1672. Took oath of fidelity to the government on Jan 28, 1673; took oath of Freedom on Mar 2, 1682. In 1679 purchased a house lot from Thos. Dickenson. Served on board of Selectmen of Hadley in 1690, 1695, 1705, and 1712. Served as member of Petit jury in trial of murderers of Richard Church of Hadley. Two Indians were convicted and executed on Oct 23, 1696 at Northampton which were the first executions in Hampshire Co. Served as a Representative to the General Court in 1699 and 1703, & was member of Hadley school committee in 1720 Military career dates back to King Phillip's War when he apparently served as military courier between the River Settlements and the Massachusetts Bay. Advanced through ranks to attain grade of Lieutenant of Militia. In expedition against Quebec both feet froze, and in appreciation of his services in this campaign, he was posthumously granted parcel of land in Winchendon. Was in Battle of Deerfield Meadow on Feb 29, 1703. Frequently got into difficulties because of his aggressiveness. Acquired considerable real-estate during life. At death his estate was appraised at 1,107 pounds, 1 shilling, and 11 pence. References
