Facts and Events
I first learned of Theodore about April 2000 from cousin Mary Lou Clegg of Ft. Wayne, IN who has completed a Thrap/p family book and works at the Allen Co. Genealogy Library. I need to document the vital data for this family, as there are apparent concerns here and this is an important family of my line. 25 Oct. 2000 photocopies from Mary Lou Clegg include a 17 Oct. 1836 handwritten Muskingum Co., OH court record details an accounting of the estate of Theodore Thrap, late of Muskingum Twp. in Muskingum Co., OH. The appraisment bill of Theodore Thrap was recorded as case # 1431 filed Jan. 9, 1837. One very interesting section of that appraisal account mentions assuring support of his wife and child (not children) for 12 months from the date of his death. Need to check Bethlehem Cemetery of Muskingum Co., OH in hopes of finding birth and marriage documents thereafter. Similar information is used by William Rose, 1325 White Oak Dr., Colfax, CA 95713 and [email protected]. He seems to be researching as close to Theodore family as anyone I have found (although Mary Lou Clegg has more and more documented Thrap data than anyone I know of. Schedule B. of the appraisal clearly states Barbara Thrap, widow of the deceased received $141.40 as one payment of bills due (some to his mother E. Starling, some to his step-father, Simon Starling, and some to Dr. Peach ... implying an illness resulting in death). A listing of the sale of Theodorus Thrap properties by Milton Ewing (apparently an auction), included items bought by Matthew Chambers, Simon Starling, , C. Mattingly, L. Green, C. Fleming, Joseph Chambers, et al.. but not one Thrap. A handwritten court document dated April 21, 1846 provided $90 support to his widow, which is a bit surprising if she was remarried in 1839 to Newton Baker Thrapp. Reported to me 15 Apr 06 from MaryLou Clegg were land data she found in a 1971 Ohio Gen. Soc. report entitled "List of Tharp, Thorp, Thrap Original propretors of Federal Land in Ohio" including:Newton B. Tharp R 8E Twp 1S Section 1 11-19-1834 Putnam Co. Riley TwpTheo A. Thrapp R 8E Twp 2N Section 33 11-10-1834 Putnam, Van Buren Twp. I notice that this land for Theo.A. was dated in the year of his marriage to Barbara Chambers, about one year prior to his daughter's birth and his death. Did he die or was he buried there despite the estate report for his propery at Muskingum Co., OH? Barry Horner ([email protected] shared Sep 9, 2003 an obit report of Louisville,KY Courier-Journal of Shelbyville death of Donald Kirk Thrap, 89, died Sun. Aug. 31, 2003. His dec'd parents were Grover and Hazel Canfield Thrap. His survivors were wife of 67 yrs Nadean Thrap (apprently at Shelbyville); daughters Mrs. Bob/LaDonna O'Nan of Shelbyville, and Mrs.Jesse/Deanna Henon of Signal Mt., TN; a sister, Irene HORNER of DES MOINES, IA, etc. He had lived at Haddan, KS, Louisville, KY, and Oldham County, KY., was a Methodist, and was buried at Mt.Tabor UMeth. cemetery. See this entire report in Thrap #16 folder. It appears that Barry Horner is associated with a ccc (college) in Nebraska. IGI (www.familysearch.org) provides data of Theodore Asbury Thrapp (2 p's) b.abt.1809 in OH, d. 5 oct. 1836 m. Barbara Chambers May 1839 at Muskingum Co., OH. She was born on 5 May 1815. She died 13 Aug 1898. I could not connect to author nor documentation of this IGI report. D.S. Baker ([email protected]) 21 Mar 2003 Email on Thrap Family Putnam Co. says that his/her line is always documented at Thrapp and thinks this is an important hint to the direct lines. Also his/her data is not carefully documented. D.S. data begins with Robert Thrapp. b. 1728 in England or Baltimore Co., MD, where my Robert Thrap shows different data. D.S. line data begins with Maurice Baker, b. about 1640 in MD. D.S. said that he/she would again visit in Gilboa, OH in 2004 and offered to seek data for me there. D.S. also highly recommended the Putnam District Library (see www.putnamco.lib.oh.us/local.htm.) References
