Sydney Herbert Timothy was born in 1895 in the Romford area of Essex, son of Anne Webb and Peter Vincent Timothy, a physician and surgeon. The family did not stay long in Essex after Sydney's birth; his younger sister was born in Manchester in 1896, and by 1900 the family had moved again to Longton in Staffordshire. Sydney died when he was only five years old, being buried at Normacot in Longton on 20th March 1900.
