    Edward Mobberly m. (2??) ca. 1748/9 Susannah DuVall
    Susanna was Edward's wife in 1751 (per deed) When Edward sold land in Frederick County, Maryland in 1741, there was no release of dower, "which indicates that there was a first wife who was death at that time".
    - Susanna was was said to have been Susannah DeRuel according to Wm. Woodward Dixon's "The Mobleys and Their Connections"[cited in George Hill's "Hill and Hill/Moberly Connections of Fairfield Co., SC"], but the name DeRuel has not been found in any published record
    - Recent research by Anne Willis indicates that she probably was Susannah DuVall, daughter of Lewis DuVall, whose 1724 will listed daughters Martha, Susannah & Ann. Lewis was a son of Mareen DuVall, Huguenot, immigrant to MD and owner of Cattail Meadows in Prince Georges Co. ca 1692-1702.

    Chapter II, RootsWeb Free Pages.

    Edward Moberley . . .was the first one of that name to come to South Carolina,

    [He] had married Susanah DeRuel and of this union were six sons and six daughters, William, Clement, Benjamin, Edward, John, Samuel, Polly, Susanah, Sallie, Elizabeth, Keziah, and Dorcas. We know this much that Clement married Mary Fox, Ben married the widow Hill, Edward, Susanah, Sallie, Elizabeth, and Keziah all married Meadors. Dorcas married Richard Hill and John married Mary Beam. The youngest son of the first South Carolina Moberley was Samuel, who married Mary Wagner daughter of Hans Wagner, and had four sons and eight daughters to live to maturity.

    Edward Mobberly, (Sr.), b. 5/13/1696, South River Parish, A. A. Co., MD, d. 1761, Fairfield Co., SC.
    m. (1??) ca. 1719 Anne ___??, wf. in 1747, d. aft. 1747 & bef. 1751
    m. (2??) ca. 1748/9 Susannah DuVall [she was wife in 1751 per deed][Formerly she was said to have been Susannah DeRuel]
    [he was in Frederick Co., MD in 1741; when he sold his land in MD, there was no release of dower{which indicates that there was a first wife who was dead at that time}; by 1749/52 he was in Lunenberg Co., VA, sold land there 9/4/1762 and 9/28/1762{Hill p.239} at which time he lived in Craven Co., SC; seems to have taken up SC land ca 1750s but not titled to him until 1760]
    NOTE: The name DeRuel has not been found in any published record other than Wm. Woodward Dixon's book "The Mobleys and Their Connections"[which was cited in George Hill's book "Hill and Hill/Moberly Connections of Fairfield Co., SC"}. Recent research by Anne Willis indicates that she probably was Susannah DuVall, daughter of Lewis DuVall, whose 1724 will listed daughters Martha, Susannah & Ann. Lewis was a son of Mareen DuVall, Huguenot, immigrant to MD and owner of Cattail Meadows in Prince Georges Co. ca 1692-1702.

    Lewis DuVall, b. 12/21/1721 [son of Mareen] Qu. Anne Parish;
    Lewis & wf. Alice(nee Brown) closed estate Mark Brown 6/14/1775;
    West Burgess, Mobberly sureties[Rezin/EA151]
  6. 6.0 6.1 Susannah was said to be the daughter of Lewis and Martha (Ridgley) Duvall (see: Milton Mobley, "Mobleys in America"), but that Susanna died soon after 1724 without ever marrying.
  7. Milton Mobley's notes are somewhat confused. Sold property without a wife's signing for dower rights in 1741; there is no evidence, just notes, that Edward had another wife besides Ann and Susanna, and Susanna is fairly clearly the mother of daughter Elizabeth born about 1741.
