    pp. 209-210.

Benjamin Moberley, Senior, son of Edward and Susannah Moberley, lived with his parents in Lunenburg county, Virginia. He was shown in the Lunenburg County tithe lists with his father in 1748. He was listed under his own name in 1749; 1750 and 1752. He married Mrs. Mary Price Hill prior to 1760 and moved to what was later Fairfield County, S.C., about 1759. He settled in the northwest part of that county and received a land grant in 177? on the South fork of Little River adjoining the land of Edward, William, Samuel and John Moberley. There is nothing to identify the connections of his wife who first married a Hill and then Benjamin.

Benjamin served in the Revolutionary War. Records from the S.C. Historical Commission:
Benjamin Moberley -- Envelope #5291. Dated May 7, 1787 . . 192 days militia duty -(signed "Moberley"), in Col. Winn's Regt. Indent #177, Book Q.
31 days duty at Ancrum & Bufords (?) Ferry under Capt. John Winn.
60 days duty at Orangeburg under Capt. Amos Davis
31 days at Four Holes under Comm. of Capt. Arom. Lyles. Deliver to Thomas Jenkins. /signed/ Benj. Mobberley
40 days as private in Capt. Arromanus Liles Company.
37 days from 27th Feb. to 1st Sept., 1782 under Command Capt. Andrew Grays (?)

He sold a parcel of land to John Moberley in 1785. Fairfield Deeds, Book A, page 115: 25 August 1785. Benj. Moberly, Sr. of the State of S. C., Camden district, to John Moberley, planter, 150 acres granted by Patent unto William Moberley, bearing date 4th day of March 1760, and transferred from said William Moberley unto the said Benj. Moberley 10th day of May 1762; then transferred from the said Benj. Moberley to said John Moberley, "North side of Broad River, on a branch called Little Creek, and bounded by lands of John Moberley and Edward Moberley." Witnesses: William Moberley, Moses Hill, Thos. Halsell and Thomas Hill. In 1786 Benjamin sold a parcel of land to Edward Moberley, Jr., Book A, (larger of small books) page 112--1786: Benjamin Mobley, Sr., of Camden District, S.C. to Edward Moberley, Jr., planter, 200 acres, being land granted to Benj. Moberley August 26 1774, by the Rt. Hon. William Bell. . . land being on N side of Broad River on a branch thereof called south fork of Little River, bounded by land laid out to William Moberley, Samuel Moberley, John Moberley, . . . . to a corner joining on or near Edward Moberley, Sr. land, on the said side of land laid out to William Moberley.
Witnesses: William Moberley, Moses Hill, Thomas Halsel, Thomas Hill

After Benjamin signed for his indent in May of 1787, we find no further record of him in Fairfield and about this time he removed to Kentucky. Mary Price Hill Moberly did not sign the above deeds with Benjamin indicating that she was now deceased.

According to Mr. W. H. Miller of Richmond, Kentucky, in his "History and Genealogy" published in 1907, Benjamin Moberley died at the age of 75. Based on the Lunenburg County, Virginia tithe lists of 1728-32, the date of his death would be 1803-1807.
