Susan Mayo was born in 1856 in Hitchin, daughter of a brickmaker named William Mayo and his wife Sarah Smith. Susan appears in the 1861 census with her parents and maternal grandmother at Bedford Street on the west side of Hitchin. Susan has yet to be traced after the 1861 census.
