1. At 9 years of age (about 1842), came down the Ohio and up the Mississippi with his parents to settle near New Canton. Source , page 15, gives 1844 as date of entry to Pike Co.

2. Lived on the farm at the mouth of Grubb Hollow for 28 years (1865-1893).

3. Park Lawn Cemetery deed: Lot #44 Pt. W. of Section B. Plan shows trapezoidal lot, approx 200 sf, at SE corner of North Walk and Avenue. Plot #2 marked, "S.S." This deed was to solomon Shewe. A second deed, to Charles E. Shewe of Kinderhook, dated 10 August 1923: Deed 501, "Lot No. 8 S. E., Section No. C, containing about 130 square feet, in Park Lawn Cemetery".

4. US Census-1860, Pleasant Vale Twp., Pike Co., IL has Solomon Shewey, 24, living in the household of Nancy Brown as a laborer. (Page 830, Line 13) His assets were $500. 5. Pike Co. does not have death record. 6. By March, 1894, "Sol. Shewe & Co.- Dry Goods" is operating on Broadway, across from the Square. It is spared in the great fire of 30 March 1894, when over half the business district burned to the ground. (See Loren's letter to CES)
