HISTORY: 1858: Sarah & husband John purchase 120 acres of land, Elmwood twp, Tuscola Co., MI. 1868: Sarah & husband move to Cass City, MI and buy into the store with the Weydemeyer Bros. They later bought them out. June 1870: 1870 Federal Census shows John Laing & his wife, Sarah, both age 37, living in Elkland, MI. They have a daughter, Minnie, age 3. Sarah's mother, Ann Weydemeyer, lives with them. John's occupation is 'general merchant' and Sarah 'keeps house.' Ann is 'at home'. Ann, John, & Sarah all born NJ & Minnie born MI. John's real estate is valued at $5000. and personal estate at $2100. Ann has real estate valued at $3000. June 1880: Federal Census, Cass City, MI. John is listed as a 'general merchant', age 48, Sarah keeps house, age 48. Minnie, age 13, is 'at school'. Sarah is buried at the Elkland twp Cemetery, Cass City, MI.

HISTORY: "..Sarah E., daughter of John and Ann (Kane) Weydemeyer, who were natives of New Jersey. Mrs. Laing was born in Springtown, Warren County, that state, Sep 2, 1833, and by her union with our subject has been granted 3 children, Arthur E., Minnie A., and Stanley J. Both sons have passed on to the other world, and the daughter is now married to Orrin K. Janes of Ovid, MI."
