Sarah Chaffer was baptised on 22nd July 1838 at Sidlesham in Sussex, daughter of Lucy Chaffer, formerly Mountfield, and her husband Henry Chaffer, an agricultural labourer. Sarah appears with her parents and siblings in each census from 1841 to 1861 living at Sidlesham. By 1861 she was described as a schoolmistress. She has yet to be researched after 1861.
