Henry Chaffer was baptised on 1st February 1829 at Sidlesham in Sussex, son of Lucy Chaffer, formerly Mountfield, and her husband Henry Chaffer, an agricultural labourer. He appears in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses living with his parents and siblings at Sidlesham. He became an agricultural labourer like his father. Thirty years later, he was still at Sidlesham for the 1881 census, living with his wife Elizabeth, four children and his widowed father. Henry has yet to be researched after 1881.
