"7. Samuel Woodruff, son of Matthew, b. Aug. 26, 1661, in Farmington; m., 1686, Rebeckah, daughter of John Clark. He remained in Farmington until the birth of his sixth child, when, about 1698, he removed to the south part of the town, in what is now the town of Southington, and was the first white settler here. Tradition locates his house on the north side of the second road south of the present town poor-house, leading east toward the mountain, at the southeast corner of the north corner lot The place where the house stood still shows in the lot. He is said to have been of great physical size and strength, of excellent disposition, and always on good terms with the Indians. He died Jan. 8, 1742."
