"12 Samuel Woodruff (Samuel 4) b 20 Jan. 1686/87 Farmington, Conn. bpt 6 Mar. 1686/87 d Febr. 1766 Southington, Conn. … He was first ensign and later (May 1729) was made captain of the 2d Company of the trained band of Farmington. In Oct. 1726, upon petition of the Third (or South) Society of Farmington, the General Assembly appointed him to collect a tax of 1 penny per acre per annum upon all unimproved lands within the precinct for four years, and the Society to be known by the name of Southington. He was one of the organizers of the Congregational Church in Southington, which at that time was a parish of Farmington. Chosen a deacon of that church 27 Nov. 1728, he was ordained to the office 7 Apr. 1729."
