    "3 Mathew Woodruff (Mathew 1) bpt 16 May 1658 Farmington 'in the 12 year of his life' d Nov. 1691 Farmington … He removed to Milford, Conn., where he was made a freeman 11 May 1671 and probably remained there until after the death of his first wife, when he returned to Farmington. There he held a number of local offices, being on several occasions (1682 and later) chosen 'haward' or 'hayward'. In 1683 his mark or brand 'for neat, sheep & swein … A swallow Cropp in ye near ear: & hors a halfpenny in ye under sied of ye near ear.' At a Court of Election held in Hartford 13 May 1686, 'John Rue having appealed from the judgment of the Court of Assistants, wherein they freed Mathew Woodrofe from being the reputed father of the child that Hannah, the now wife of sayd Rue, brought forth next after her marriage with Rue, the Court haveing heard what hath been presented to them, see no reason to alter or vary from what the Court hath done."
