  1. Samuel wrote articles for many years for the Birmingham News and was on the Editorial Staff. Several of his daughters also were writers and poets.
He is buried in the Typographical Plot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham just a few steps away from the burial site of his daughter, Sammie Ruth Freeman Hahn.
A humerous side note: Sammie Ruth was his 7th straight daughter. He was hoping so much for a son, that he named her (before she was born) after himself as Samuel Rutherford Freeman, Jr. She later changed her name (not sure if it was a legal change or not) to Sammie Ruth and she went by simply Ruth.
Afterwards, an 8th and 9th daughter were born and then finally his last child was a son - Edward Prater Freeman.
