Samuel2 Elwell (Robert1) was probably one of the two children of his parents baptized in Salem on August 28, 1639. … He died in Gloucester on November 24, 1696, … Samuel Elwell took the Freeman's Oath in June, 1664. … The inventory of Samuel Elwell's small estate of only £19:12:0 was filed by his widow and administratrix on February 15, 1696/7. The estate was found to be insolvent and one-third given to the widow was to revert to the creditors upon her death. A quietus against the creditors was given her on May 1, 1699. She sold an island of upland and a neck of land, about two acres, to John Smith in 1698."
