    "Samuel (Elwell), b. (Gloucester) March 4, 1659/60; … settled in Branford, Conn., where he d. in 1726. Samuel Elwell, jr., of Gloucester sold to Samuel Bishop of Ipswich for £95 the house and land at Gloucester willed to him by his grandfather, Robert Elwell, now in the hands ot John Hadley as tenant, lying near the harbor, with four acres of upland and two acres of marsh near the Cutt, on July 25, 1684. Samuel Elwell, sr., made delivery by turf and twig on Aug. 24, 1694 [Essex Deeds. 11:180]."
