    From the Genealogy - Ruth Christina married Merritt M. Bateman, a farmer. She died in Elba, Genesee, Co.,NY in 1867. She had 2 children, Corydon & Clark. In 1905, nothing was known of Corydon Bateman. Clark had married and resided at East Aurora, Erie Co.NY. The End

    1860 Census for Clarendon, p.943 Merritt Bateman 21, Carpenter/Joiner b.VT & Ruth 17, b.MI and baby Coridon 4mos, b.NY.

    1865 NY State Census for Clarendon, NY - Merritt M. Bateman 34, b.VT, mechanic & wife
    Ruth 22, b.MI. Son, Clark 3yr3mo. From this, one can pretty much conclude that the baby Coridon has died.

    1867 Ruth dies

    1869- her mother's estate is settled and each heir gets $17.34. Her son Clark Bateman, a minor, gets her share.

    1870 Census for Elba, NY in Genesee Co Roll #939 p.574 h/h67 Merritt Bateman 38, b.VT, farm labor & wife Sarah 20, b.NY with Clark A. 8, Cora B. 2, Susan 1mo., all b.NY. Ruth died 3yrs ago & Merritt has remarried. Coridon died before 5yrs old and Clark will be raised by his step-mother.

    Merritt M. Bateman, PVT, 8th Artillery Co.K enlisted July 31, 1862; mustered out July2, 1865.
