Death certificate info given by Ambrose Bruder from Long Prairie. Ruth Bruder lived in Long Prairie, MN for last 5 years, died at Long Prairie Hospital at age 54 years from auto collision in Browerville, Todd, MN on Sept 3 1953 at 1:30 am, married, no SS#. Long Prairie Leader - Thursday, Sept 3, 1953 - Pg 1, Col. 1 EXTRA Mrs. August Bruder, 53, of Iona died this morning about 3 o'clock at the Long Prairie hospital as the result of injuries sustained about 1:30 o'clock this morning in an automobile accident on the main street of Browerville, about a block north of St. Joseph's Catholic church. Mr. and Mrs. Bruder were returning home after attending a dance at Clarissa when their car collided with one driven by Leo Cech, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cech of rural Browerville. Mr. Cech was not injured. The cars met headon and were badly damaged. Mr. Bruder, a diabetic, although not sustaining critical injuries, because of the nature of his illness was reported in poor condition by the hospital this morning at 9 o'clock. (copy in my possession) Long Prairie Leader - Thursday, Sept. 10, 1953 CHARGE NEGLIGENCE TO AUGUST BRUDER A complaint was signed yesterday morning by Highway Patrolman George M. Marquardt of Wadena and in the warrant prepared, August Bruder is charged with criminal negligence as the result of the accident last Thursday morning in Browerville that resulted in the death of his wife. In the warrant handed to the sheriff for service, Mr. Marquardt charges Bruder with reckless driving and with driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Mr. Bruder was Saturday taken to University hospital for surgery to reduce the fractures of both jaws he suffered in the accident. Sheriff Galvin said that the warrant will very likely not be served until Mr. Bruder returns to the village after treatment in the city. Investigation at the scene of the accident indicated that the Bruder car was traveling on the wrong side of the street. (copy in my possession) Long Prairie Leader - Thursday, Sept. 10, 1953 RIGHTS ARE HELD FOR SIXTH TRAFFIC VICTIM THIS YEAR Husband of Victim Taken to City for Oral Surgery Funeral services for Mrs. August Bruder of this village, who died about 3 o'clock last Thursday morning at the Long Prairie Hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Browerville about 11/2 hours before, were conducted Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Msgr. George Rausch officiated and internment was made in the church cemetery. ????????? and the following served as pallbearers: A.F. Bokinski, Richard Robinson, Joe Bous, Alvin Bous, Albert Fearing, and Joe Warner. Mr. and Mrs. Bruder were returning to their home in this village early Thursday morning when their car collided on the main street of Browerville, near St. Joseph's Church, with a car driven by Leo Cech. Mrs. Bruder suffered compound fractures of both legs, a fractured left arm and head and internal injuries with resulted in her death some 90 minutes after the accident occurred. Her husband sustained numerous lacerations and contusions as well as multiple fractures of both jaws. His condition was such that he was able to be taken Saturday to University Hospital in Minneapolis for oral surgery. Leo Cech, driver of the other car, suffered a broken left knee cap and is now able to be up and around with the aid of a cast and crutches. Mrs. Bruder was the former Ruth Catherine Stephan, daughter of Paul and Bertha (Rosenow) Stephan. She was born Jan. 21, 1899 in Long Prairie township and was a lifetime resident of this county. On Feb. 19, 1917, she was here married to August Bruder. They made their home in Reynolds township where they engaged in farming. In 1948 they moved to this village. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and of the Christian Mother's Society. Surviving her death are her husband and six children: Mrs. John (Isabelle) Becker, Ambrose, Emil, and Mrs. Leonard (Bernice) Miller of Long Prairie, Edward of Browerville and Mrs. Howard (Lena) Bluhm of Rock Falls, Ill. There are 24 grandchildren, also surviving are four brothers and three sisters as follows: Robert Stephan, Mrs. John Bruder, and Mrs. Frank Loegering of Long Prairie, Nick Stephan and Mrs. Albert Petrie of Eagle Bend, Lawrence Stephan of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Siegfried Stephan of Poplar, Mont.
