_MARN: Sleeper == Biography ==Ruth Bean was born April 24, 1762, in Brentwood, Rockingham county, New Hampshrie, the daughter of the Reverend James Bean and his third wife, Lydia (Hoag) Bean. [1] [2] On August 25, 1781, in Exeter, Rockingham county, New Hampshire, Ruth married Benjamin Sleeper. They were Quakers. Upon their marriage, Ruth and Benjamin followed her brother, Joel Bean, to Alton, and settled near them. Ruth and Benjamin had two children, born in Alton:

  • Joseph Hoag Sleeper, born March 15, 1788, in Alton, New Hampshire, married Sarah Lougee on August 25, 1814, in Alton, New Hamphshire. Their daughter, Emily Bean Sleeper, born November 2, 1818, married Samuel Sheldon, in 1841, in Alton, New Hampshire, and their son Joseph Henry Sheldon became Mayor of Haverhill, Massachusetts.
  • Susan Sleeper, born November 30, 1797, in Alton, New Hampshire

Ruth died February 15, 1843, in Alton, New Hampshire and was buried in the Alton Mountain Cemetery, West Alton, Belknap County, New Hampshire. Her husband survived her and died February 16, 1849 and was buried with her. [3]

== Researcher's Notes == Caution: There is actually another Ruth Bean, born in Barnstead, Massachusetts, who married a different Benjamin Sleeper, born in Barnstead, on May 17, 1780, in Caroll county, New Hamphshire. They are the parents of Lydia P. (Sleeper) Coleord, born 1782, died October 9, 1866, in Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts. And, yes, I have seen some Pedigree files on Family Search and Ancestry that combine the families of this other couple with the family of THIS Ruth and Benjamin Note from Erik Swanson: The Clan MacBean book is incorrect about this family; I will be updating and adding profiles and sources (I've done a good deal of work on Benjamin and Ruth, my 5th great-grandparents). Until that's all here, please feel free to contact me directly.
