Facts and Events
Roy (ss#=485-03-1689) worked very hard at and eventually owned the 4thSt. Garage between Grand and Locust in Des Moines. He sold that to purchase the West Des Moines Ford agency, which he sold and retired when he was in his late 40's. Roy was about 5'6", and stout build. He was usually in a serious perspective. An avid hunter, and after he sold his Ford agency he often gamed with Reese Tuttle ( hunting and fishing editor of the D.M. Tribune newspaper). He was also a private pilot and enjoyed some stunt flying. He was the only son of his family that never had any drinking concerns. He may have been born 1 Aug 1904 (from son, Roy Jr.). 1941 Des Moines Directory shows Roy (Marie) living at 1306 Park Ave. It also shows Riley, Roy Garage: repairing, towing, and car washing 24 hour service. It also shows Roy Riley opr living at 201 6th Av apt 201 (surely this is not his son Roy Jr./Sonny at age 13). Roy and Marie lived for many years at 701 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines. |
