Facts and Events
Name Carl Patterson
Alt Name _____ Riley
Gender Male
Birth[1] Abt 1901 Warren, Iowa, United States
Marriage to Laura Lee Viggers

My mother placed him in the order born after Argus among the sibling, but it could be incorrect as she did not know his birth date. Family and friends apparently called him Pat and I understand that he may have legally changed his surname to Patterson (may have even been adopted by the Patterson family in Warren Co., and stayed with them when they moved to NE.) Patterson's were in Des Moines and ran a hardware store near E.9th and Hulman St. in the early 1930s). I need to search data for that family.

However, I record his birth name here as Riley (assured so by my mother), yet list his children as Patterson (more likely correct). He had a prison record (perhaps MN or IA), worked in Des Moines, IA after his term he sold ads for a Des Moines radio or TV company, where I first (& last) met him about 1956 and we had a very pleasant but impersonal chat. Unfortunately, I do not recall if he was then using Riley or Patterson surname, but I think Patterson.

SSDI data (if correct person) shows birthdate as 9 Nov 1899 and death in Dubuque, IA Dec. 1985. That would have made him the oldest child and born about four years prior to the next child, Argus.

If this is a good guess, he would have been born when parents were age about 16 (matches newspaper report of forced marriage of Lew and Rosa). I suspect this could have been correct as I recall that the parents of Lew and Rosa kept them separate for a time after the shotgun marriage, but they later got together again. My grandmother Rose never spoke to me of Pat, nor did other family members (except my mother) mention him to me. Probably married in Des Moines, IA, so children may have been born there also.
