Rose was born in Ireland about 1810, and married Neil O'Hargan probably in the early 1830s in County Antrim. They had 3 children in Ireland before emigrating to the US in 1838, and had 10 altogether. They lived in the town of Greenwood (Steuben County) in the southwest part of New York. Rose lived to be about 80.

That her maiden name was McCormick comes from unspecific family records, although it is confirmed on the death certificate of son Cornelius O'Hargan (d. 7/13/1936 in Detroit MI).
