Long Prairie Leader - 21 Oct 1915, Page 1 column 1 DEATH OF MRS. C. STEPHAN Mrs. Carl Stephan Died at Her Home In This Village Saturday Morning of Dropsy. Had Been Ill a Year. Resident Here Since 1881. Mother of County Treas. Stephan.

Mrs. Carl Stephan died at her home in this village Saturday morning at half past one o'clock. She had been ill about a year with a complication of troubles, but the immediate cause of her death was dropsy.
The funeral was held from the Catholic church in this village Monday morning, and interment was in the cemetery of that church. The services were largely attended by friends and neighbors, as Mrs. Stephan had lived in this community many years and was well known.
Her maiden name was Rosalia Schuster, and she was born in Proskau, Upper Schlisia, Prussia, Germany, on the 30th of August, 1838. She was thus in her 78th year. She was married in her native town to Carl Stephan on Sept. 16, 1861. They continued to live in Germany until 1881, when they came to America and to Long Prairie. They bought a farm just north of the village and since their residence here have alternated in living on the farm and in town. However, they have spent most of their residence in the village and since 1899 have lived here almost continuously.
Mrs. Stephan was the mother of eight children, four sons and four daughters. Seven of them survive her, and they are Mrs. Ben Laumeyer, Mrs. Philip Petrie, and Mrs. Nick Kieffer, all of whom reside in this village, and Carl Stephan, Paul Stephan, Robert Stephan and August Stephan, all of whom live in this community except Robert, who is in the west.
August, her youngest son, is treasurer of the county.
Mrs. Stephan was a quiet and unassuming woman who loved her home and devoted her time and energies to it. She was a good neighbor, as all who knew her will be glad to recall. The Leader joins them and other friends in extending its sympathies to the bereaved.
