Facts and Events
Ronald was the only child of Edward and Cora Leopold who was born in a hospital. Ronald was shown as 2 mo old in the April 29, 1930 U.S. Census, Adamana, Apache, Arizona "After a few months [after his birth] we noticed that he could not hold his head up straight. He always held it to one side or the other. He had a hard time learning to walk and only talked in one-word syllables. After taking him to many doctors they said the nerve that controlled the neck was killed at birth and they blamed the doctor (Dr. Brazell) that delivered him." (Source: Life Story of Cora Paulyne Saunders Leopold) Omah Leopold (possibly Louisa Hempen Leopold) made Cora feel like she was neglecting the rest of her children because Ronald was so much care. Cora and Edward decided to put Ronald in a home in Phoenix. Ronald was sent to Phoenix with lots of warm clothes and diapers. However, one time when Cora went to Phoenix to visit Ronald, she discovered him wearing thin overalls and no diapers. He was also very thin. Cora was extremely upset and took Ronald home. (Source: Life Story of Dorothy Byrle Leopold Malone) Eventually Omah convinced Cora to let her take Ronald to Oakland, California where she could devote her full attention to him. While in California, Ronald learned how to walk with a walker and talk in one-word syllables. _FSFTID: KCZ1-7S6 References
