Benzie Banner; 1911 ---- Researched; Mar. 2002 Feb. 10,- Article; "Samuel Lung & horse team" Samuel Lung momentarily left his horse team standing on the big hill back of the Burns farm Friday and they ran away coming toward Beulah. They were drawing a large load of lumber from the Fred Bailey mill, before going far they pulled the tounge out freeing themselves from the sleigh and proceeded with it and the whiffletrees. On overtaking Robert Lung with a load of lumber they ran square into it and one horse landed entirely on top of the load the other was partically under the sleigh. One horse was considerably injured but is again at work. (Pg. 1) Feb. 17,- Born to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Lung on Feb. 10 a daughter. (Pg. 1)


Benzie Banner; 1917, ---- Researched; Nov. 1999 May 3,- " Pg. 1" Boom Time In Homestead - Activities on farms in the locality show support of "preparedness" program -- (by Correspondent) Homestead, May 3 -- The boom is on. Talk about "prepardness" Homestead people are "going some" in their effort to make this successful, bigcrop year. Mr. Swan of Swan Arenson Co., of Chicago, was here during the latter part of the week assisting their superintendent, Vernon G. Ward, in making arrangements for clearing up and planting on the Homestead Orchard estate. Mr. Ward is on the ground pushing the work. They expect to put forty acres in potatoes this season besides quite a large acrage in beans. Also Mr. Warbritton, from New Market, Ind., is clearing eighty acres belonging to him in section 5 and wants to put twenty or thirty acers in beans. Robert Lung, another Indiana man, landed here Saturday night with a car loaded with stock and household goods with the intenion of making his home in the neighborhood. Mr. Mary L. Ott, of Goshen, Ind., is here looking after her farm and expects to rent it to the Fausz brothers who have purchased ninety acres adjoining it and are now improving it. Arden Weygandt has also located on his farm and intends to make extensive improvements this season. Entry date; Nov. 28, 1999 DeKalb county News paper "Obituary" Stroke Proves Fatal To Robert Lung, Aged 69 Robert B. Lung, 69, a resident of Cedar southwest of Garrett in DeKalb county most of his life. died a Sacred Heart hospital in Garrett Friday at 10:26 a.m. . He suffered a stroke of paralysis at his home last Sunday and was taken immediately to the hospital. He never fully regained consciousness. He had been ill many years and was blind the past 17 years. Mr. Lung was born May 30, 1878, near Cedar Creek and he was a farmer. His wife is the former Goldie Werts of Ohio. Surviving besides his widow are six sons, Henry of Butler,; Homer of Rt. 2, Auburn,; Ford of 113 1/2 North Randolph Street, Garrett,; Lawrence of 914 South Cowen Street, Garrett,; Wesley of East Garrett,; and Leo of Bosie, Idaho,; four daughters, Miss Minnie Lung and Mrs. Lloyd Stahl, at home, Mrs. Walter Clark of East Garrett,; and Mrs. Warren Griffin of two miles west of Garrett.; three brothers Bennett of San Diego, Calif.; and Samuel and Thomas of Carson Wash.; one sister Mrs. Matilda Long of Benzonia, Mich.; and 18 grandchildren The body was taken to Zimmerman funeral home and it it was returned to the residence Sunday morning. Final rites will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Creek church of the Brerhern the Rev. S. J. Flory officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Chapel cemetery. southwest of Garrett.
