Robert Coston Lamar was married to France Daviess Wroe by the Rev. William B. Maxey, a methodist inister on October 5, 1854. They were married at the home of Frances' parents. Robert Coston and Frances lived on a farm in the Utility community of Hancock County about 3 miles from Hawesville. He was interested in local affairs. In addition to farming, he served 2 years as surveyor and one term as Sheriff in Hancock County. He was a member of the Methodist church and did some preaching. He was a democrat in politics. It is said he was able to avoid the draft for the military service during the civil war because the draft board used the wrong name when it called him up. He lived in Hawesville several years before he died.

They were the parents of 10 children.

Robert Coston died of apoplexy on September 3, 1917 at 86 years of age and Frances, his wife, died of pneumonia on December 9, 1927. They are buried in the Hawesville cemetary.

According to Hancock County Clarion article, "Mr. R. C. Lamar of Utility was in town on Tuesday. Mr. Lamar is now 82 years old but gets around well for one of that age. Just following the Civil War, he was sheriff of Hancock County, and served one term as assessor. He also served for about twenty years as road and bridge comissioner, and during his life has done much good service for this county."
