Calvin Lamar was a highly respected farmer living in the Hilldale community in Hancock County. The farm on which he was living at the time of his death was purchased from Milton E. Lawson in 1884 which was six years after he and Mary Elizabeth were married. Calvin Lamar died of asthma on April 5, 1924. He was 68 years old. Mary, his wife, died with pneumonia on April 11, 1924, only six days after the death of her husband. The funeral services for Calvin and Mary Lamar were conducted by Rev. C. R. Crowe in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Utility. They are buried in the Utility Cemetery. They were the parents of ten children. They were: Hatti Bell, James Hillary, Walter Howard, Nellie Gay, Robert Carl, Ruby Wroe, Richard Coleman, Benjamin Boyce and a boy and a girl who died as infants without being named.
