No birth record has been found for Richard, but his parents were married in Randolph County and the records for their second son say that Alpheus was born in Randolph County so it is likely that Richard, their first child, was born in Randolph County also.

Richard & Rebecca's child, W. Henry, was born in Preston County, so the family was there at least for awhile. Richard, Rebecca, Virginia (6 yrs), Rachel (3 yrs), and William H. (6 mos) were listed in the 1850 Census of Preston County. Beryl said Richard fought for the Union and received a pension. Dolly (gr-granddaughter) said Richard and Rebecca separated after raising 10 children, but never divorced. Dolly said after the separation, Richard went somewhere around Normantown or Cedarville (WV) and when he died, was buried there.

On their son Daniel's 1937 death certificate, the informant, Mrs. Chloe Vogel, said Richard was born in England and his wife Rebecca was born in Holland. Neither of these birth locations are correct but they may give a clue as to their heritage. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=1263481&Type=Death
