Facts and Events
Also called Richard Jake Foskey. In 1850 Census Jacob Fosky is enumerated in Pulaski County, Georgia in his mother Elender Foskey’s household with half-brothers Henry, Barry, brother William and half-sisters Becky and Sarah. He is 14 years old and born in Georgia. In 1860 Census Jacob Foskey is enumerated in Pulaski County, Georgia with his wife Mary J., Mary Armstrong (age 8) and John Armstrong (age 4). He is 25 years old, born in Georgia and a Laborer. He is living next door (or on the property of) Miles Bembry. He is also living next door to Rodolphus Edins, his brother-in-law. It is probable that Mary Armstrong and John Armstrong are Henry Armstrong’s children. Jacob Foskey enlisted in Company K, 49th Regiment, Georgia Infantry on March 4, 1862 in Pulaski County, Georgia and committed to 3 years or the end of the war. On 2 May 1863 he was transferred from General Hospital No. 9 to Chimborazo Hospital No. 2 (both in Richmond, Virginia) with pneumonia. He was back with his regiment by July, 1863. Private Foskey served as an ambulance driver near Harrisburg, Virginia from 8 Dec through 29 Feb. 1864. In March, 1864 he drove for a camp near Grange C.H., Virginia. In November, 1864 he was a teamster at Petersburg, Virginia. He deserted from camp on 25 Feb, 1865. On 9 April, 1865 he, along with the whole Confederate army, was surrendered by General Robert E. Lee, C.S.A., to Lieut. Genl U.S. Grant at the Appomatox Court House, Virginia. In 1870 Census Jacob Foskey is enumerated in Pulaski County, Georgia with his wife Mary J, nephew (?) Jno J. Armstrong, daughter Rebecca, and sons Warren and Miles B. He is 32 years old, a planter with $500 in real estate value and $200 in personal estate value. He was born in Georgia. 1880 Census, Jacob “Foster” is enumerated in Pulaski County, Georgia with his wife, Mary, sons, Warren, Miles, Barry and daughters Rebecca, Mattie and Carrie. He is 47 years old and a farmer. Other information too light to read. In Application for Confederate Widow’s Pension, Mary Jane Foskey gives two dates for her husband’s death -- 1883 and 31 August, 1884. References
