Reuben appears in the 1911 census living with his parents and siblings at 29 South Road in Luton. Reuben's father died in 1916, when Reuben was only twelve years old.

Reuben was married in 1928 to Edna May Andrews. They had two sons, one in 1929 and the other in 1931. For the first few years of their marriage they lived at 76 Boyle Street in Luton with Edna's family. Some time between 1937 and 1939 they moved to 28 Somerset Avenue, where Reuben would live for the rest of his life. At the outbreak of the Second World War, Reuben, Edna, their two sons and Edna's stepfather were all living at 28 Somerset Avenue. Reuben was described as a wood machinist.

Reuben's mother died in 1950.

Edna died in 1961, aged 57.

In 1966 Reuben married again. His second wife was Winifred Clara Hodges, formerly Carter. She had been a near neighbour of Reuben's before the war, having lived at 70 Boyle Street.

Winifred died in 1982, aged 63.

Reuben died on 15th July 1985, aged 81, having outlived both his wives.
