Rebecca Dugger was born in Surry Co, VA probably ca 1770. She never married as far as we can tell. She was named in her father's Will (1805) and was still single in 1844 when named in conjunction with her brother James Dugger's estate.

On 2 Jun 1831 James Smith made his Will in Brunswick Co., VA naming his heirs:

  • Wife (name not given)
  • Rebecca Dugger to be supported "so long as she may think proper to live with my wife and daughters."
  • son James Smith
  • daughters Martha W., Lucy Ann, Emily Ann and Frances Hill Smith, all under age
  • son-in-law Thomas W. Cheely
  • daughter Louisa A. Cheely
  • son John C. Smith.
  • Executor is nephew and friend Edward C. Smith
  • Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 11 page 341

From the above it appears Rebecca Dugger lived with the James Smith family, relationship unknown.

In 1844, F.S. Jackson paid Miss Rebecca Dugger $278.75 for her share of her brother James' estate in Tippah Co, MS, or actually he paid John Dugger, administrator of Rebecca Dugger, who was deceased by then. (Brunswick Co, VA Deed Book 34 page 282).
