Obituary from Albany Times-Union, June 8, 1996 PHEBE WHITBECK RAVENA -- A service will be held Saturday for Phebe Amy Irwin Whitbeck, 85, who died Tuesday in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Mrs. Whitbeck was born in Neversink, Sullivan County. She resided in Ravena most of her life. Mrs. Whitbeck worked as a companion-housekeeper, after which she became a homemaker. Mrs. Whitbeck was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved animals and her garden. She was the widow of Robert L. Whitbeck Sr. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Whitbeck Jr. of Coeymans Hollow; five daughters, Marilyn Anderson and M. Jacqueline Bleau, both of Selkirk, Dorothea Backlund of New Baltimore, Phebe Archibald of Guilderland and Aleta Lyons of Westerlo; three brothers, Theodore, David and Alfred Irwin, all of Aquetuck, Coeymans; two sisters, Nellie Charma of Yorkville, Oneida County, and Anna Conrad of South Bethlehem; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery in Coeymans. Arrangements are by the Babcock Funeral Home. References
