He is listed as Pehr and Peter in the Church records for the Christenings of all of his children. He is Pehr Anders Almquist on the church record for the Christning of son Peter; FHL film 134452 VRI

Many of the records of Vessige Parish were destroyed in a fire in 1809. Maybe Pehr's birth record was lost in that fire. The birth date I have was on a Household Record. I do not know where he was born.

I believe that Almquist is a name given to Pehr because of a trade that he practiced: It became a custom among craftsmen to adopt special surnames of the trade. They did not adopt these surnames until they had passed the qualifying piece of work requirement (gesällprovet). The craftsmen's surnames were often constructed with two expressions and usually connected to some form of names from nature or topographical localities. Alm=Elm Vist=twig At the FHL in Salt Lake City they said it could also be a military name.

    undantagsman-previous farm owner receiving his livinghood/support from the person to whom the farm now belongs (usually related, as in father and son) like a Tenant Farmer in the US.
    The age differs only by a few days. I figure by his birth date that he would be 73 yrs., 2 mos., and 13 days.
