He is listed as Pehr and Peter in the Church records for the Christenings of all of his children. He is Pehr Anders Almquist on the church record for the Christning of son Peter; FHL film 134452 VRI
Many of the records of Vessige Parish were destroyed in a fire in 1809. Maybe Pehr's birth record was lost in that fire. The birth date I have was on a Household Record. I do not know where he was born.
I believe that Almquist is a name given to Pehr because of a trade that he practiced:
It became a custom among craftsmen to adopt special surnames of the trade. They did not adopt these surnames until they had passed the qualifying piece of work requirement (gesällprovet).
The craftsmen's surnames were often constructed with two expressions and usually connected to some form of names from nature or topographical localities.
Alm=Elm
Vist=twig
At the FHL in Salt Lake City they said it could also be a military name.

9th May 1878 Per Almquist died. He was 73 years, 2 mos. and 16 days old. He is listed as a undantagsman. Reference number: DRSW001
undantagsman-previous farm owner receiving his livinghood/support from the person to whom the farm now belongs (usually related, as in father and son) like a Tenant Farmer in the US. The age differs only by a few days. I figure by his birth date that he would be 73 yrs., 2 mos., and 13 days.

1800-Note: I cannot read the comments-too bad as it might tell me where they came from. In 1796 the first 2 people listed on this record Peter [S]van & Sara Maria are living in Åsberg but no Almquists. It appears that the Almquists are living with them in 1800. 1811-15: Note: Cannot read the comments on this record. There are a lot of them. 1816-20: Note: check to see if Neta married a Eric Johansson. Perhaps line 7 was a child from Eric's first marriage? Looked for a married for Neta 1815-20 in Abild but none found.

Records completed for religious testing. Cannot determine date but will be between 1862-1871. No way to tell. Not all family members are present. Severina b. 1855 and Emanuel b. 1844 are missing. Severina may be listed with her husband if she is married. Or she may not have survived. Emanuel might be listed with his wife if he is married or he may have immigrated already (1869). 1/8 means a farm that could feed 1/8 of a family since the number 1 represents a farm that could feed 1 family. The farms are split up between family members.
