About Patrick Napier

Confusion has surrounded the identity of the wives of Patrick Napier. New records have been found proving that Patrick Napier was married to Ann Franklin, daughter of Edmund Franklin, Sr. of Bedford County, Virginia. A Court case in Bedford County, Edmund Franklin vs Isaac Salkfield, first begins in about 1761, Edmund Franklin is refusing to pay fees charged by Salkfield for medical treatment of his daughter Ann Napier who had a sore leg. He was very angry and upset and one witness testifies that he heard Edmund say that "Salkfield has killed my daughter". Another witness, Obadiah Wright gives deposition on 17 September 1762 that "he heard Patrick Napper's wife say that the Doctor should not concern any more with her leg for it grew worse she said than it was before he undertook it and futher saith not". It is highly likely that Ann died from this sometime late in 1762 or early in 1763.

After the death of his first wife, Patrick married 2nd, Judith Mary Burk[e], daughter of William Burk (abt. 1709-1754) and Mary Taylor. It appears that Judith Mary Burk was the mother of most of Patrick Napier's children.

   Patrick Napier born 1732 Goochland Co., VA died after 1808. He moved about 1776 to Montgomery Co., VA [out of which Giles Co. was formed]. His daughter SABRA born ca 1758 wed JOHN HAMMOND SR. about 1777 and moved from Giles Co., VA to KY in 1806 & in 1807 to Warren Co., TN settling at Thaxton. John Hamond Jr. wed Sallie Law dau. of William in Montgomery Co., VA on 8 August 1805 & moved to KY then to TN. SOME OF THE HAMONS WENT FROM WILKES CO., NC TO OWEN CO., KY.
