IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. I, Robert Napier of Albermarle County being Weake of Body but of perfect Sence & Memory thanks be to Almighty God for it Doe make & Ordain this my Last Will & Testament in Manners & Form Following this is to say.
First & Principly I recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God hopeing in & through the Merits of my Blessed Saviour to receive full pardon for all my past Sins and my Body I commit to the Earth to be Buried in Christian Manner at the Discretion of my Executors & Executrix hereafter to be mentioned and as Touching Such Wordly Goods as it hath pleased God to Endow me with I give & bequesth as follows ----
First my Will is that all my Just Debts be paid.
Item I give & bequeath to Stephen Napier one Shilling Sterling.
I give to my Daughter Francis* one Shilling Sterling.
I Give to my Daughter Judith Gibson One Shilling Sterling.
Item I Give to my son Ashford Napier my Plantation whereon I now Live & Two Hundred Acres of Land & Negroe Tom, to him & his Heirs for Ever.
I Give & Bequeath to my Loveing son Robert Napier Junr. Four Negroes, Bobb, Aggy, Jack & Bourn & feather Bed whereone I now lie only bob (&) Aggy to be lent to my Wife During her Widowhool or her Decease or Marriage immediately to Return to my Said Son Robert & if it Should please God that either of my Two Sons last Mentioned Ashford or Robert Should Dye without Lawful Heirs then the Estate to Return to the other Children then Surviveing & as to Rest of my Estate of what Nature or Quality So Ever to Remain in my Wifes possession Dureing her life or Widowhood & then to be Equally Devided amongst my Last Mentioned Sons Ashford & Robert.
I appt. my Loveing Son Ashford Napier Executor with my Loveing Wife Mary Executrix. I hereby Revoke all Former Wills by me Made.
In Witness where of I have hereunto Set my hand & seal this 9 Day of Decr. 1755.

This Will & Testament was presented in Court proved by the Oaths of Wm. Hudnall & Thomas Napier, Witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded & on the Motion of Ashford Napier, one of the Executors who made Oath According to Law Certificate is Granted him for Obtain(ing) Probat thereof is due form Giveing Security whereupon he with Jacob Williamson & Thos. Napiers his Securities entered in & Acknowledged their Bond Accordinly.

  • Note: Robert Napier's daughter Frances married a Reuben Francis, thereby becoming "Frances Francis", so it may not be a mis-spelling in his will.
