Nick was involved in a robbery in 1911 near Winnemucca, Nevada. Hispartner in Crime shot and killed the saloonkeeper and his wife. Forhis part in the crime Nick was sentenced to die. His mother pleadedwith the governor of Nevada and he was pardoned and released on thecondition that he join the army and fight in WW1. He worked as a heavyEquipment mechanic until he was 85.
