Drafted into WW1in T.F. Idaho he was sent to the state of Washingtonto help cut timber for use in building airplanes. After the war hereturned to Wash. where he worked as a lumberjack. In the 1930's heinvented a gold machine that would gather the fine gold flakes fromthe banks of the Snake River. He didn't get rich but it got him throughthe depression. In 1945 he started a trout farm in the Snake RiverCanyon 6 miles west of Twin Falls, Idaho. He built a cable car thattraveled 500 feet from the bottom of the canyon to the top.In the1950's he started getting arthritis in his left hip and used a caneto walk. When he was in his eighties he had x-rays taken and discoveredthat he had completely worn out his left hip joint and the leg bonehad worn up and sideways into his pelvic bone and worn in a new socket.About 1978 he fell off of a small Ford tractor and it ran over him.It didn't break any bones but it bruised him badly.
