Research Notes

While lacking records to confirm this match, DNA evidence strongly suggests that this Moricz son of David and Sali is the same Moricz who is the father of Julius, as appears in these records from the JewishGen Hungary database:

  • b. 4 Mar 1881, Wolf / Willmus LITTMAN, son of Moritz and Deborah EICHNER, in Petermezo, registered in Kisszeben, Saros (rec# 13-126), witness Sandak Heinrich EICHNER
    • m. 23 Jul 1907 Vilmos LITTMAN (son of Mor and Dora EICHNER), age 26, and Pola Gluck (dau of Bernat and Betti PASZTERNAK), age 20, in Kassa
  • b. 2 Feb 1883, David LITTMAN, son of Mor and Dori EICHNER (from marriage record)
    • m. 7 Apr 1907, David LITTMAN (son of Mor and Dora EICHER), age 24, and Hermina ZSAGRIN (dau of Simon and Hani LITTMAN), b. 1 Nov 1880, mother deceased, in Kassa (they were first cousins)
  • b. 20 Dec 1884, Gyula / Judasz / Yudah LITTMAN, son of Moritz and Deborah EICHNER, in Petermezo, registered in Kisszeben, Saros (rec# 20-17), witnesses Sandak Herman FRIEDMAN, Simon WIEZENBERGER

The above Gyula LITTMAN is strongly linked to the Julius LITTMAN who immigrated to New York in 1905 and married Regina KRAUSS in 1914. (US records match exact birth date, and immigration record lists home town as Peter Mezo.)

The place name "Petermezo" appears to relate to something near Lipany/Dubovica, and Kisszeben appears to be present day Sabinov. Kassa is now Kosice.

Disambiguation

Need to be careful to distinguish this Moricz from another Moritz Littman born around the same time and area. (The other one was born in Hunfalu, son of Elias and Deborah, and married Fani Bergsman.)
