Mildred (or Meldred) Veysey was baptised on 12th April 1754 at Witheridge in Devon, daughter of Joan Veysey, formerly Crook, and her husband William Veysey. The family lived in the neighbouring parish of Thelbridge. Mildred appears to have been the youngest of four children.

Mildred was married on 25th June 1776 at Thelbridge to a James Veysey, who may have been a relative, given that they shared the same relatively uncommon surname. They appear to have had six children together, who were baptised at the nearby villages of Witheridge and Rackenford. They have yet to be traced after the baptism of their sixth child in 1790.
