Facts and Events
Humphrey Veysey was baptised on 19th December 1750 at Rackenford in Devon, son of Joan Veysey formerly Crook, and her husband William Veysey. Although baptised at Rackenford, the family was living at Buddleswick in Thelbridge parish at the time.
On 17th April 1776, Humphrey was married at Stoodleigh to Charity Veysey. Given the fact they shared a relatively uncommon surname they may have been cousins of some degree, although this has yet to be demonstrated. They had a number of children together.
In 1798 Humphrey was listed as the occupier of land at Creacombe for tax purposes, with his landlord being the heirs of the late Sir Thomas Acland.
Humphrey died in 1800, aged 49. He was buried at Rackenford on 3rd July 1800. He left a will, bequeathing £100 each to four named daughters and a son, with the remainder going to a Richard and John Veysey, although his relationship to Richard and John is not specified.
Charity survived him by about 48 years.
