Charity Veysey was baptised on 22nd November 1754 at Rackenford in Devon, daughter of Richard and Joan Veysey. The family lived in the nearby parish of Stoodleigh.

Charity was married on 17th April 1776 at Stoodleigh to a yeoman named Humphrey Veysey. The fact they shared the same uncommon surname may indicate that they were some degree of cousins, although this has yet to be demonstrated. Humphrey and Charity had several children together. Humphrey died in 1800, aged 49.

Charity survived Humphrey by 48 years. She appears in the 1841 census living at Lower Batsworthy in the parish of Creacombe, where she was living with her son John. She was described as being of independent means.

Charity lived to be about 94 years old. She was buried at Rackenford on 16th November 1848.

Baptisms Anno 1754 / Charity daughter of Richard & Joan Veysey (of Studleigh) was baptized Nov[embe]r the 22d.

This baptism has been linked to the Charity Veysey who married Humphrey basis on the basis that it is at about the time implied by the age quoted for her in the 1841 census and at her death, it quotes her family's abode as being the parish from which she was married, and it gives her father's name as Richard Veysey and one of the witnesses to her marriage was a Richard Veysey. Moreover, no other Charity Veysey baptisms around this time have been found, nor has any evidence been found to suggest that the Charity baptised in Rackenford in 1754 married someone else or died young.
