1840 US Census, Middleton Twp, Columbiana Co, OH: Michael is counted in census of his father, Henry McMillen, age 40-49.

1850 US Census, Huntington Township, Gallia Co, OHIO: Henry "McMillon" age 51, moves to Gallia County about 1845. Michael is age 18 on this census.

About 1856-1857 Michael McMillin moved to Crawford County, Wisconsin with his father Henry McMillin, and his sister Eve Copus with husband, John Copus. They traveled by the Ohio River, and then up the Mississippi River. This is where he met his future wife, Susan Dobbs. His sister, Barbara Ann McMillin married Susan Dobbs' brother, Stephen Dobbs that same year, in Nov. 1857.

Mathes and Jonas Chitwood, 24th May 1857. Susan was the daughter of William Dobbs and Mary Helms.

Household #1110 is Susan's mother, Mary Dobbs (without her husband), and her siblings: Jackson, Naomi, William, Alexander, and Lewis Dobbs.

1870 US CENSUS, Akan, Richland Co, Wisc. Household #25: Michael McMillin Age 38, Farmer born in Ohio. Wife Susan is age 30, born in Wisc. Children all born in Wisconsin: Erilda age 12, Josephine age 10, Arminta age 8, Harriet age 7, Bell age 5, Jackson E. age 2, Mary is age 4, Lewis F. is age 8 mos. NEXT HOUSEHOLD #26: is her brother, Stephen Dobbs (ex-husband of Barbara McMillin) and her brothers William Dobbs, age 24 and Lewis Dobbs, age 20.

HISTORY OF RICHLAND COUNTY - Akan Township: In 1873 the Christians organized a church in the school house of district No. 3, under the management of Revs. Jacob Felton and Lewis Himes. Among the first members of this church were Albert S. Bailey and wife, Mrs. Amanda Ross, Michael McMillan and wife, Isaac Ferguson, William Fosnow and wife, John Beaman and Wilson Slayback and wife. John Beaman was elected the first class leader. This class met at the school house for about two years, and then merged with the Harmony Church. Revs. Himes, Felton and Pucket were among the pastors of the church. A Sabbath school was organized at the same time as this church, with John Beaman as superintendent.

From Tales the Tombstones Tell - Richland County - Sylvan Cemetery: As stated in the beginning of this story that numerous Boys in Blue sleep in this cemetery, we can now take note of the truth of that statement. Michael S. McMillin is to be counted as a Civil War veteran. He was a member of Co. D, 6th Infantry. He enlisted March 20, 1865, giving his residence as Clayton, Crawford county. Mr. McMillin was born in 1831 and passed away in 1892. Near him are laid to rest other members of his family.
