The Hornbine Baptist Church held the first meetings once a month in the home of Mial Pierce. In 1753, it was decided to build a meeting house, "basing its organization upon the six doctrines set forth by the Apostle Paul in the Sixth Chapter of the Epistle to the Hebrews." On April 5, 1753, an organizational meeting was held at which time Daniel Martin and Nathan Pierce were chosen joint elders and Mial Pierce, the father of Nathan, as Deacon.

Deacon Mial was said to have been a "strong influence" on neighborhood affairs in the Hornbine area of Rehoboth. He appears to have owned several pieces of property.
