Ellis/Round [20 June 2015]

CONFLICT AS TO WHO IS THE CORRECT WIFE. 1. JUDITH ROUNDS 2. JUDITH ELLIS. Both women have the same birth & death dates. Both women have the same children. They are the same woman, but what is the correct last name? There are researchers who claim one woman and not the other. Pierce Genealogy gives wife as Judith Ellis, daughter of Judge Ellis. She was b. 1686 d. 6 Oct 1744 (dates vary) Another source says that Judith, wf of Mial PIERCE as daughter of John ROUND (b ca 1645 d. 7 Oct 1744 Swansea, m ca 1665-8) They were both married 26 Nov 1711. Elizabeth____ who outlived her husband). Johns father was John Round of Yarmouth, Rehoboth, & Swansea d. 1675 k. by Indians. His wife was Ruth____ who was killed at the same time as her husband. The younger John Round apparently came to Swansea about 1689. Mighty Liberty Men (1976) pg 71

"Both women have the same birth & death dates.": wrong, one women, two names. There is a death record giving the death of wife of Mial Pierce whatever her name is, and the birthdate is calculated from age at death, so whatever name is chosen, that is how the dates are derived.

"There are researches who claim one woman and not the other.": That's why it is best to ignore people that don't give good sources. You must try to find the primary (i.e., based on nothing else but a first hand account) evidence.

The marriage record in Swansea says Joanah Round, but children's births say Judith, so Judith Round appears to win, unless somebody wants to post some evidence that Judith Round was a widow whose maiden name was Judith Ellis. Seems unlikely.

Pierce doesn't give any evidence and nothing in his book shows he saw anything other than the death record after she is married, and presumably he simply copied somebody else in saying Judith Ellis, in the same way as all the various sources turn around and copy him. Who is Judge Ellis, her alleged father? Source:Rounds, H. L. Peter. John Round Family of Swansea and Rehoboth, Massachusetts, p. 38 says, "Extensive research has not located any records to support this statement. The 'Judge Ellis' is not otherwise identified, and this one entry is the only mention of any Ellis in the entire Pierce Gen." --Jrich 17:42, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

need sources [29 June 2015]

The following information appears incomplete or incorrect and needs sourcing. It has all appearances of being cut and pasted from some website without regard to whether it is correct.

Deacon Mial Pierce 1692-1786 had Pilgrim Ancestor through Arthur Howland. ARTHUR HOWLAND, LATER PILGRIM 1623, wife Margaret Walker

brother to John Howland and his wife Elizabeth Tilley who were Mayflower Pilgrims

1. Deacon Mial Pierce 1692-1786 Judith Round(s) 1687-1744
2. Ephraim Pierce II 1674-1772 Mary Low 1675-1769
3. John Low 1651-1692 Mary Rhodes 1655-1693
4. Anthony Low Sr 1620-1692 Frances Eaton 1630-1702
 5. Elizabeth Howland 1640-1725 John Low 1595-1653
6. Arthur Howland Sr 1590-1675 Margaret Walker 1605-1683
7. Henry HOWLAND 1566-1635 Margaret Alice Aires 1567-1629

The first record of Arthur Howland in New England is 1640. He is not included as a name in any of the Great Migration Series indicating he did not come over by 1635. His wife is Margaret (? possibly Reed?) Walker, but she appears to be his second wife and as it doesn't appear Elizabeth Low was named in her will, maybe was not her mother (there is a NGSQ article on this family that needs to be consulted). How can Anthony Low b. 1620 be a descendant of Elizabeth Howland b. 1640? That is impossible. This has been removed as it is best entered by simply looking at the family tree explorer showing the chain of ancestors, assuming they are all properly linked and providing the sources that show them to be true. --Jrich 19:09, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
