One Oswego, Labette Co., KS record shows Merritt T. Braught listed as "incompetent". One record note refers to him as "Marion". In Labette Co. probate records: Wills Book B 1951-1964 Case # 2755 shows Merritt Braught a claimant from Harrie E. Mathis of Parsons, Oswego Hospital, and J.J. Waxse, MD (filed 20 Dec. 1955); from J. A. Carson of Parsons, KS and Elmer Blackledge of Chetopa, KS. The historian at Oswego Museum mentioned that a man named Larry Smith had recently visited there with interest in Braught history and said that he owned Merritt Braught land in Oswego. I did not pursue this at the time. 

  Folks at Oswego Senior Center commented that Merritt actually lived as a patient in a hospital (probably for incompetents).

US Census, 1920 KS, Labette Co., Richland Twp. shows Merritt T. 24, Single, head, b. KS, both parents b. Ohio, farmer. With him is his mother, Rachel T. age 78 widowed. US Kansas 1930 Census; Labette Co., Richland Twp. shows Merritt Braught, head, 44,Single,never married, could read, born, in KS, parents both born in OH, farmer.
