     Maude's father had changed the spelling of his name from Warden to Worden when he was a young man.

Mrs. Orville Pumphrey Died at Her Home Near Sharpsville.

ILL SEVERAL YEARS

    Mrs. Maude (Worden Pumphrey age 52, wife of Orville Pumphrey, succumbed to heart complications at her home one mile west of Sharpsville, Thursday evening at 5:45 o'clock. She had been ill for several years. 
    She was born in Prairie township Jan. 12, 1887, and had lived her entire life in Tipton county. In December of 1905, she was married to Orville Pumphrey. 
    She was a member of Liberty Baptist church and when health permitted took an active interest in the affairs of the church.
    Survivors include the husband and one son, Garnet, of Sharpsville; one daughter, Mrs. Lois Hawkins of Springfield, 0. And a sister, Mrs. Fred Silers of Sharpsville:
    Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

1922 Feb 16 “held the first service in the new building” [Liberty Baptist Church]

Feb 19 “First Sunday School held in new Building with an attendance of 132. Pictures taken of the School and building”

Mar 3 “Started to Church and had to walk Back.”

Mar 4 “repaired Ford”

1926 Mar 16 “Orval Attended Teachers Training Class at Prairie.”

1932 May 7 & 8 “Mrs. Harry Hawkins & son Larry spent weekend with her son Harold & wife in West Lafayette Ind.”

Jul 29 “Mrs. Guy Wooldridge gave a shower in honor of Mrs. Garnet Pumphrey. she received many useful and lovely presents.”

Aug 5 “Harold & Curt Richards started working in the post office”

Jun 29 “Harold Hawkins returned home from camp Knox Ky. Charles Hawkins & wife and Lois went after him.”

Mon 15 [Aug] “Harold drew his first pay from the post office $19.50.”

Sat 27 [Aug} “Mother made grape jelly (one qt & three glasses) and canned two qt.”

Dec 27 "Orval finished shucking [corn] this south field. Living on Trautman place. 1933 will make seven years."

1933 Jan 16 “Lois and I washed.”

Feb 8 “coldest night of winter 1932 & 1933 12 - 15 below zero high wind all day and night”

Jun 3 "Sat” "Phillip Ardeth son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrold Hawkins arrived at 10::40 (P.M.) O clock weighing 9 lbs."

Apr 10 “Orval has gone to Kokomo to interview a housekeeper...”

Apr 12 “Frank Pumphrey was here in afternoon. Garnet was here in evening stayed until 9:30 O’clock. Garnet is working at Stellite at Kokomo Ruth works in bank at Sharpsville has been working March a year ago.”

Apr 13 “Went to Dr. Cotton this A.M. and was tapped making twenty five times.”

Apr 14 “Orval, Olis & Garnet went to Kokomo to get wiring to put in some wall plugs”

Apr 28 “... Orval is plowing in the south field across the lane We Are Living on the J. E. Hawkins farm.” [crop sharing]

May 20 “Clifford Margarita & daughter Rosemary stayed all night.”

Jul 21 “Lois and children were here last three weeks in July going home July 29 Harold was in camp at Ky. for last two weeks. Jacquelyn learned to walk in her walker while here. And the boys took a swim in the ground feed. That was just one of many funny things they did. ha! ha!”

Aug. 4, 1939: "Was at the Dr. this morning making 41 times I've been tapped."

Aug 10 “Garnet and Ruth were here in the afternoon....” This was Maude’s last entry. Starting April 9th Maude had made numerous entries for many people that were visiting her. She died 16 November and is Buried at the Liberty Cemetery, Prairie Township, Tipton County, Indiana.

    There are four additional entries by daughter Lois. January 27 “Lois and kiddies moved from Springfield, O. here. Harold continued working at Robbins and Myers one week and went to Buffalo, N. Y. Feb. 3 to begin working for Curtis Wright.” Final entry, Feb. 4, was “Dad Took Phillip & Don to Liberty to S. S.
